Four members of our team have contributed to the latest issue of Transylvanian Review. Martin Klečacký analysed how the death of the breadwinner affected social mobility among Czech civil servants in the second half of the 19th century. The topic of Alice Velková’s research was the specificities of family life of senior civil servants in Bohemia in the second half of the 19th and early 20th centuries. Ana Victoria Sima focused on the importance of wives and in-laws for the socio-political careers of Romanian politicians in Transylvania in 1850–1918. Marius Eppel chose a particular man as the subject of his work – Vasil Mangro. He then used this example to examine the relevance of family background and personal networks in his political career.
