The conference Habsburg Civil Service. Beyond the State Apparatus took place online, between January 28–30, 2022. It was hosted by the Research Centre of the Slovenian Academy of Science and Arts and by Te Herenga Waka – Victoria University of Wellington. The event brought together numerous specialists on the topic and took place online, due to the pandemic situation, but also to the wide geographical coverage of the participants. Within the event’s framework, Judit Pál and Vlad Popovici gave a talk on the topic of The multifaceted identity of state and county officials in Transylvania (19th to early 20th centuries). Hundreds of these officials were, during the time, Lord Lieutenants or Members of Parliament elected in the constituencies of Transylvania, thus exploring the issues related to their identity can help in the understanding of their personal and family choices.
