After a long period when most international conferences were held only online, the 72nd Conference of the International Commission for the History of Representative and Parliamentary Institutions (ICHRPI) was held, face to face, in Athens on 20–23 October 2021. The main topic of the conference was the bicentenary of the Greek War of Independence, which also gave birth to the first local National Assembly: Post-Napoleonic Europe Revolutions and parliamentary institutions: The case of Greece on the occasion of the bicentenary since the War of Independence (1821–2021). The very full conference programme focused mainly on the evolution of representative institutions towards parliaments, also discussing such topics as political conflict inside parliaments and relations between legislative assemblies and the executive power. Members of our team also contributed to the discussion on the above topics. In the section entitled The evolution of representative institutions towards parliaments, chaired by Kostas Chrysogonos, Judit Pal and Vlad Popovici presented their paper called: Representative assemblies and executive institutions in Transylvania in the aftermath of the First World War (late 1918 to mid 1920). The contribution by Alice Velková Deputies and bureaucrats. Personnel connection of the legislative and executive power in the second half of the 19th century appeared in the section Relationships between legislative assemblies and the executive power, chaired by Charalambos Vlachopoulos.

The conference was undoubtedly a success, thanks mainly to its organizers, led by Dr. Georgia Karvanouki, who also organized for the participants extremely interesting visits to both the historical and contemporary Greek Parliament buildings.
